Capcom is preparing to release the first major downloadable content for Dragon's Dogma 2, which will include the removal of previously implemented microtransactions and the addition of a new hard mode difficulty option. The upcoming DLC aims to enhance the experience for players, particularly those who have reached the game's level cap.
Game director Kento Kinoshita confirmed the development of a hard mode in a Q&A session featured on the game's Steam page. This mode is intended to offer a significant challenge for seasoned players whose characters possess maxed-out or near-maxed-out stats. While a specific release window for this hard mode has not yet been provided, producer Naoto Oyama stated that further details regarding its release are forthcoming.
The upcoming expansion content, referred to as Forsaken Dominion and Lost Rites, is also designed to present a greater challenge than the main game. Kinoshita noted that these expansions will feature battles with an increased sense of tension. Recognizing the wide range of player progression, Capcom is balancing the game to ensure an enjoyable experience for all players, whether they are just beginning their journey, are midway through the game, or have already completed multiple playthroughs.
Even within the normal difficulty of the DLC, the challenge is set to increase as players progress. Enemy encounters will become more demanding, and the game is balanced so that players who have already reached the stat cap can still find a meaningful level of difficulty in the later stages of the expansion content. This suggests that while the dedicated hard mode will offer an additional layer of difficulty, the expansion itself will provide a considerable challenge.
