Dragonproof Graphic Novel Blends Gargoyles and Buffy Vibes

AHOY Comics is preparing to release Dragonproof, a new fantasy graphic novel that merges elements reminiscent of beloved '90s series like Gargoyles and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The book is a collaborative effort between writer Eric Palicki, known for Black's Myth, and artist Giulia Lalli, who previously worked on Eight Limbs.

Dragonproof follows Ashleigh Cole, who, after a camping trip, encounters a dying dragon marked with U.S. military symbols. Initially dismissing the experience, Ash soon begins to exhibit dragon-like traits herself. Guided by internal voices, she embarks on a mission to locate and liberate other captive dragons from a clandestine government organization aiming to weaponize them. The graphic novel is intended for adult readers who enjoyed Buffy and Gargoyles, as well as fans of contemporary fantasy series like The Fourth Wing and ACOTAR.

"Like so much of my other work, DRAGONPROOF is, at its heart, about outsiders finding their people and their purpose," Palicki stated. "I tend to wear my influences on my sleeve, and this book is also a love letter to some of the stories that made me the writer I am today. Having partners in Giulia and Gab who were on the same wavelength was pure magic."

The 96-page graphic novel features cover art by Tango for the trade paperback edition and by Lalli for the hardcover edition. A crowdfunding campaign for Dragonproof is currently active.
