Drunken Goddess Reflux Demo Canceled Amid Fears of AI Cloning

Alliance Arts has canceled the public Steam demo for its upcoming horror drinking game, Drunken Goddess Reflux, opting instead for private online play sessions. The developer expressed concerns that the demo's content could be used by AI tools to quickly imitate or replicate the game's presentation and gameplay before its official release.

In a statement posted on X, Alliance Arts explained that while they had planned to release a demo on October 19, they could not adequately manage restrictions on posting and streaming gameplay videos. This led to the decision to shift to private preview sessions for a limited number of participants.

The studio also highlighted worries about AI 'vibe coders' and other tools potentially creating copies of the game. "We're concerned that the demo's content could be used to quickly imitate or replicate the game's presentation and gameplay with AI or other tools, and that such works could be released before launch," the developer stated.

Drunken Goddess Reflux is described as a "shot glass Russian roulette" drinking game where players face an anime demon girl. The game features a mechanic where the rules become increasingly complex as players consume more alcohol. The developer stated, "We sincerely apologize for the short notice."

This decision reflects a growing concern within the game development community regarding AI's potential to rapidly clone game concepts. Similar incidents have been reported, with one developer's prototype being cloned within hours of being shared online. The increasing ease with which AI can replicate game designs raises significant challenges for independent developers seeking to protect their work and build a community around their projects.
