Drunken Goddess Reflux Demo Canceled Due to AI Copycat Fears

Alliance Arts, the developer behind the upcoming anime game Drunken Goddess Reflux, has canceled plans for a public Steam demo, originally scheduled for October 19. The decision stems from concerns that AI technology could be used to quickly create imitations of the game's presentation and gameplay, potentially undermining its planned December 8, 2026, launch.

Instead of a public release, the developer will host a closed play session for a limited number of participants. Alliance Arts stated in a Steam update that they are "concerned that, based on the content of the demo, works imitating or replicating this game's presentation and gameplay could be quickly produced using AI or other tools and released ahead of the game's launch." This move aims to prevent potential copycat experiences from appearing before the full release, which could impact the game's success.

The studio also cited limitations in managing and restricting the posting and streaming of gameplay videos from a public demo. With limited resources to enforce such restrictions, the shift to a closed environment was deemed necessary. Players interested in participating in the upcoming play sessions are encouraged to join the Drunken Goddess Reflux Discord server for more information.

Drunken Goddess Reflux is described as a "shot glass Russian roulette with a demon who loves you enough to kill you" and is still slated to launch on PC via Steam on December 8, 2026.
