The upcoming Peacock television adaptation of Matt Dinniman's LitRPG series, Dungeon Crawler Carl, has appointed Chris Yost and Eric Heisserer as co-showrunners. Yost, previously a writer on the project, will step into a larger leadership role, joined by Heisserer to bolster the series' science fiction credentials.
Yost brings a wealth of experience from his work on major franchises. He served as a consultant and writer for The Mandalorian's first season and co-wrote Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok. He also previously showran the Paramount+ series Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Heisserer is recognized for his work as the creator, producer, and showrunner of Netflix's Shadow and Bone series. He also penned the screenplay for Denis Villeneuve's acclaimed film Arrival, an adaptation of Ted Chiang's sci-fi novella.
With seasoned talent like Yost and Heisserer at the helm, alongside Seth MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door production company, the Dungeon Crawler Carl series appears to be building a strong foundation. Further casting news emerged from San Diego Comic-Con, with Jeff Hays confirmed to reprise his role as the voice of Princess Donut, a decision author Matt Dinniman praised for its association with the character's established sound.
While a release date for the series has not yet been announced, the Dungeon Crawler Carl books continue to gain momentum. Dinniman has two more novels planned in the series, and a tabletop RPG based on the books is slated for release in December. In related streaming news, Peacock recently implemented its fourth price increase in four years, coinciding with the planned addition of YouTube Premium to its offerings in early 2027.
