Wizards of the Coast has revealed its Dungeons & Dragons roadmap for 2027, which includes a mature-rated expansion set in the Dark Sun campaign setting. This expansion, subtitled Blood and Power, will come shrink-wrapped with a warning due to its mature content, which includes "violence, bloodshed, nudity and sexuality."

The Dark Sun setting, previously described as a darker take on D&D and set on the "blood-soaked desert world of Athas," will also feature an accompanying setting expansion called Edge of Oblivion, introducing the Psion class. The reveal was made during Gen Con 2026.

Upcoming Expansions and Crossovers

The roadmap outlines several phases for D&D releases. The current "Season of Magic" features the Arcana Unleashed expansion, adding new subclasses, backgrounds, feats, spells, magical items, and a short adventure. Following this is "Deadfall," a campaign focused on espionage in Thay, designed for higher-level characters.

Later in the year, D&D will enter its "Season of Champions," highlighted by a major crossover event, marking the brand's first "Universes Beyond" release. In 2027, the roadmap continues with "Season of Survival," which houses the aforementioned Dark Sun content, and "Season of Sword & Sorcery," bringing a new expansion for Greyhawk titled "Crown of the Witch Queen." The year will conclude with "Season of Rebellion."

New Creative Initiatives and Video Game Updates

Beyond campaign expansions, Wizards of the Coast announced D&D Icons, a new creative program that will involve D&D luminaries in developing future content. This initiative includes a new Dragonlance product from Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, a contribution from Luke Gygax featuring unfinished work by his father, Gary Gygax, and a project from RA Salvatore centered on Drizzt Do Urden.

The panel also briefly mentioned the upcoming action-adventure video game, Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons. Gameplay for this title is slated to be shown during Gamescom's Opening Night Live, with Maggie Robertson voicing Tasha and Tricia Helfer as the lead character Kaatri.
