A collaboration between Dungeons & Dragons and World of Warcraft has reportedly been revealed ahead of Wizards of the Coast's major Gen Con announcements. A virtual tabletop Roll20 news post, since removed but archived by RPG site EN World, detailed an upcoming D&D 5th Edition setting book focused on the Warcraft universe.

This would not be the first time the two franchises have intersected. Wizards of the Coast previously published official books adapting the Diablo universe to D&D's rules around the release of Diablo 2. Later, a World of Warcraft RPG was developed for D&D's 3rd edition, although it was published by White Wolf under the Open Gaming License. White Wolf is also working on a D&D crossover for Vampire: The Masquerade.

The leak suggests the World of Warcraft crossover will be more substantial than previous licensed D&D products, such as the Stranger Things or Rick & Morty starter sets. The exact nature of the content for the World of Warcraft setting book remains speculative, but it is expected to provide rules for integrating Warcraft's lore and characters into the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition framework. While some fans may welcome the opportunity to play as iconic Warcraft races like Tauren within D&D rules, others question the necessity of adapting a fantasy world already heavily influenced by D&D's established tropes, such as elves.

Wizards of the Coast is scheduled to host a keynote at Gen Con, which runs from July 30 to August 2. The event is expected to feature several Dungeons & Dragons announcements, with speculation arising about potential reveals for long-dormant campaign settings like Dark Sun or Birthright, or a book for Al-Qadim. The World of Warcraft crossover news, however, seems to have preempted some of these official reveals.
