Dungeons & Dragons Details Star Wars Collaboration Arriving in 2027

Wizards of the Coast has officially shared the first details regarding its forthcoming Star Wars expansion for Dungeons & Dragons. Announced at New York Comic Con, the collaboration is set to release in 2027 and will feature an adventure module and a core rules book.

The adventure, titled Star Wars Tyro Squadron: Adventures, will place players in the role of a secret Rebel crew engaged in missions against the Empire. Set during the era of the Original Trilogy, the narrative will focus on original stories that unfold alongside Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa's galactic battles. The expansion aims to allow players to shape the Rebellion's story through daring missions and exploration of new parts of the galaxy, emphasizing scrappy scoundrels over Jedi.

Alongside the adventure, Wizards of the Coast will release the D&D | Star Wars Core Rules book. While specific details about how the rules will adapt blasters and lightsabers for D&D mechanics were not provided, the company indicated that more information would be forthcoming. Both the adventure and the rules expansion are slated for a 2027 release.

This Star Wars crossover marks the second major collaboration under Wizards of the Coast's Universes Beyond banner, following the recently announced D&D: World of Warcraft expansion. The World of Warcraft content, which includes a core sourcebook and the Icecrown Citadel Map Pack, is scheduled to launch on November 17 and will allow players to explore familiar zones and dungeons from the franchise's history.

The Universes Beyond initiative began in 2021 with Magic: The Gathering, featuring crossovers with properties such as Warhammer 40,000, Marvel, Final Fantasy, Lord of the Rings, and even SpongeBob SquarePants. While this approach has faced criticism from some Magic players for potentially over-commercializing the game, it has proven to be a significant revenue driver for Wizards of the Coast.
