Warlock, a new Dungeons & Dragons video game, has received its first substantial trailer, revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live. The footage offers a look at the game's third-person action gameplay, which appears to be entirely single-player, with Dungeons & Dragons influences integrated through its world design and the protagonist's abilities.
The trailer depicts the main character, a Warlock, making a pact to gain her powers. Players will explore environments such as a classic ramshackle town and a dungeon, engaging in combat. During one sequence, the Warlock uses a teleportation ability to evade an enemy attack, leaving behind a decoy. In another scene, she casts a spell to summon rain on distant enemies before unleashing a series of lightning attacks, seemingly enhanced by the inclement weather.
The combat shown is described as flashy and fluid, though the trailer represents a vertical slice of the game, with further evolution expected before launch. The game is slated for release in 2027, with a more precise window yet to be announced. Warlock is being developed by Invoke, an in-house studio at Wizards of the Coast, and is helmed by Corinne Busch, who previously worked on Dragon Age: Veilguard.
