Wizards of the Coast has announced a new addition to its Dungeons & Dragons Universes Beyond line, this time venturing into the Star Wars galaxy with Star Wars: Tyro Squadron. The announcement follows up on a July reveal at Gen Con that something Star Wars-related was coming to the tabletop role-playing game.
At NYCC 2026, Wizards of the Coast confirmed a new adventure module, Star Wars: Tyro Squadron, and a new Core Rules expansion for the Star Wars universe. While specific details about the Core Rules expansion remain scarce, it is expected to be as expansive as the recent World of Warcraft release, offering new story hooks and modifications for traditional D&D classes.
The Tyro Squadron adventure module is set during the Original Trilogy era. Players will assume the roles of a secret Rebel crew, taking the fight to the Empire. According to Wizards of the Coast, the adventure will involve daring missions, exploration of new galactic locales, and the opportunity to shape the unfolding story of the Rebellion. This campaign appears to focus on the less-explored aspects of the Star Wars universe, reminiscent of the earlier Star Wars: Zero Company release.
The integration of Star Wars elements like blasters and lightsabers into the high-fantasy framework of Dungeons & Dragons presents an interesting challenge. However, the successful handling of the World of Warcraft expansion suggests a promising approach to this new partnership. More information regarding the Star Wars D&D expansion is slated for release at Star Wars Celebration in April 2027.
