A new Dungeons & Dragons game, titled Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern, is set to release on PC in 2027. Developed by Homo Ludens and published by Dotemu, the game shifts focus from traditional adventuring to managing a cozy tavern.

Players will step into the role of an entrepreneur tasked with renovating and expanding a dilapidated building into a thriving tavern within the Dalelands region of the Forgotten Realms. The management gameplay involves hiring staff, decorating the establishment, and crafting a variety of food and drink recipes. A key mechanic involves keeping adventuring patrons happy, which in turn allows players to send them on quests. Successful quests yield rare ingredients that can be incorporated into the tavern's menu.

Beyond its management sim elements, Long Rest Tavern incorporates a narrative layer. Players will uncover an overarching plot connected to a ghost bard residing in the acquired building. The game also features interactions with iconic Forgotten Realms characters, including Minsc and his miniature space hamster, Boo.

The core gameplay loop is structured into four sequences: tavern expansion, recipe crafting, client service, and quest dispatch. This cycle is designed to offer variety, with the gradual unveiling of story elements intended to maintain player investment. While players do not directly control adventurers during quests, the game integrates Dungeons & Dragons mechanics. Quest resolution relies on a d20 roll against a set difficulty, with bonuses awarded based on party composition and how well the adventurers have been provisioned.

Game director David Ranineau highlighted the developers' passion for D&D, with the game featuring extensive flavor text and lore references. Notably, an appearance by a well-known traveler and guide, who also features in Baldur's Gate 3, will involve them reviewing the player's tavern, emphasizing the importance of top-notch service.
