Wizards of the Coast has outlined an extensive slate of new content and digital enhancements for Dungeons & Dragons, revealed at the D&D Vision Keynote 2027 panel during Gen Con 2026. The announcements span new campaign settings, revivals of beloved but long-dormant worlds, a significant overhaul of digital tools, and the introduction of major cross-franchise collaborations.

D&D Icons and Third-Party Adventures

The company is launching "D&D Icons," an initiative designed to bring foundational D&D creators back to collaborate on new stories. Franchise Creative Director Kara Kenna stated that the program aims to blend legendary creators with the current design team. Joe Manganiello has been appointed chief creative officer for this initiative. Initial collaborators include Dragonlance creators Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, R.A. Salvatore, and Luke Gygax, who will contribute to upcoming Greyhawk material drawing from his father's unpublished notes.

Furthermore, Wizards of the Coast will partner with prominent third-party publishers to produce official D&D adventures for underrepresented campaign settings. Executive Producer Greg Bilsland explained that this move aims to provide more consistent support for settings like Eberron and Ravenloft. The first such partnership will yield an official Ravenloft book from Ghostfire Gaming in 2027, followed by an Eberron adventure from Visionary Productions in 2028 and new Forgotten Realms material from Kobold Press. These will be official physical and digital releases distributed through Wizards of the Coast's standard channels, with a goal of providing at least one major adventure annually for each supported setting.

D&D Beyond Overhaul and Mobile App

Significant improvements are coming to D&D Beyond, including a new looking-for-group hub at dndbeyond.com/lfg. This hub will feature a worldwide event finder for participating Wizards Play Network stores, a partnership with StartPlaying offering introductory sessions, and a dedicated LFG channel on D&D's official Discord server. The platform itself will receive a rebuilt search function and new Dungeon Master preparation tools such as a scene manager, map pins, bookmarks, and encounter management features that do not require external applications.

An overhauled D&D Beyond mobile app is also slated for release in 2027. Designed for use at the physical table, the app aims to reduce distractions and enhance player presence. Built on a new rules engine developed over two years, it intends to automate D&D's intricate rules, speeding up gameplay administration without dominating the session. Early versions are expected in 2027 with continuous feature additions planned.

Campaign Settings and Video Game Adaptations

Warlock Video Game Details

The upcoming action-adventure video game "Warlock" will feature Tasha, a prominent character from D&D lore, as the patron of the protagonist Kaatri. Tricia Helfer will voice Kaatri, with Maggie Robertson as Tasha. The game's first gameplay footage is scheduled to debut at Gamescom 2026.

Arcana Unleashed and Deadfall Campaign

Scheduled for September 15, "Arcana Unleashed" will offer new subclasses, backgrounds, feats, spells, and magic items, along with rules for evolving magic items and new magical creatures. A companion book, "Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall," will provide a full campaign for characters from levels 11 to 20. This high-level adventure is set in Thay and involves espionage against the lich ruler Szass Tam, offering players a chance to undermine his plans to empower undead armies with demonic forces. The campaign includes a gazetteer of Thay, details on the Red Wizards, and new stat blocks.

Greyhawk Returns with Crown of the Witch Queen

Greyhawk, a classic campaign setting, is set to receive its first major adventure for the current D&D edition in late 2027 with "Greyhawk: Crown of the Witch Queen." This 160-page campaign centers on Drelnza, the vampiric daughter of Tasha. The adventure is described as villain-focused with a dramatic visual style, intended to reimagine the classic Greyhawk aesthetic. This release will be accompanied by a map pack and Dungeon Master screen, and as the first campaign setting supported by D&D Icons, it may incorporate contributions from Luke Gygax and his father's notes.

Dark Sun Returns with Mature Content

The grim and dangerous Dark Sun campaign setting is officially returning, with Wizards of the Coast planning to embrace its mature themes. This will be D&D's first officially mature-rated setting, with books labeled for players 18 and older due to content including bloodshed, nudity, and sexuality. "Dark Sun" will anchor D&D's "Season of Survival" in February 2027, featuring a player-facing expansion titled "Blood and Power," a campaign setting guide called "Edge of Oblivion," and a limited-edition Player's Handbook. The release will also introduce the Psion as D&D's second new class for 5th Edition, featuring optional mechanics for more brutal combat, including decapitation rules. Wizards cited the expanded audience for mature fantasy content, influenced by franchises like "Game of Thrones" and "The Witcher," as a reason for this approach.

Universes Beyond: World of Warcraft Crossover

Dungeons & Dragons is launching its "Universes Beyond" program with a full campaign setting adaptation of World of Warcraft. The "Dungeons & Dragons x World of Warcraft" book, releasing November 17 with early access beginning November 3, will include rules for 11 new species, nine subclasses, 26 magic items, 60 spells, and numerous other elements designed to bring Azeroth to the tabletop. This includes mechanics for professions, mounts, and companion creatures. A separate map pack will offer a digital Icecrown Citadel adventure for characters levels 16-20, culminating in a battle against the Lich King, Arthas. Hasbro will also release miniatures of Arthas and Illidan. This World of Warcraft collaboration establishes Universes Beyond as an ongoing product line, though Wizards intends to balance external franchises with original D&D worlds.
