Wizards of the Coast and its in-house development team, Invoke Studios, have unveiled the first full gameplay trailer for their upcoming Dungeons & Dragons action-adventure title, Warlock. The reveal, which occurred during Gamescom Opening Night Live, offered a substantial look at the game beyond its previous teaser. Warlock is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
The eight-minute trailer presents Warlock as a third-person, single-player action-adventure game set in an original, dark fantasy open world inspired by the Dungeons & Dragons universe. Players will step into the role of Kaatri, a veteran warrior who forms a pact to wield supernatural magic against malevolent forces. Tricia Helfer, known for her role in Battlestar Galactica, lends her voice to Kaatri, with creative director Jeff Hattem drawing parallels between the character and figures like Furiosa from Mad Max: Fury Road and Vanessa Ives from Penny Dreadful, particularly in her "strange and unnatural and not very clean magic."
Invoke Studios, which was acquired by Wizards of the Coast, is comprised of veteran developers who previously worked on Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance under the Tuque Games banner. For Warlock, the studio is reportedly refining its focus on gameplay and narrative, centering on a single class fantasy and a new protagonist. The upcoming title appears to aim for a competitive space alongside established action-adventure games like God of War and Dark Souls.
