Electronic Arts has released a significant collection of 25 classic PC games on Steam, with many also available on GOG. The lineup includes every title from the Ultima RPG series, the complete Wing Commander franchise, both Crusader games, Strike Commander, and Theme Hospital.
Several Wing Commander titles and Road Rash have received "Anniversary Editions" featuring quality-of-life improvements. EA states these updates aim to "support modern systems, controls, improve performance and make the titles more approachable without compromising their authenticity." These enhanced versions cost $9.99 each. The remaining 18 titles are priced at $4.99.
For the Wing Commander Anniversary Editions, EA collaborated with the community to integrate mods that enhance the games for modern systems. Players who already own digital copies of the Wing Commander titles on GOG or the EA App will automatically receive the Anniversary Edition upgrade for free.
These Anniversary Editions also boast meticulously re-edited FMV sequences. EA's efforts to restore these cinematics were inspired by the discovery of a vault containing extensive physical media assets. Over 1,500 cinematic scenes have been recovered and restored across these seven legendary titles.
The Ultima series, a foundational RPG franchise, was created by Richard Garriott, also known as "Lord British," who later gained notoriety for building a castle and becoming one of the first private citizens to travel to space.
