Elden Ring Modder Recreates Dark Souls 2's Frozen Eleum Loyce Map

Modder Doneda has released a new mod for Elden Ring's Nightreign, porting the Frozen Eleum Loyce and Frigid Outskirts areas from Dark Souls 2 as a standalone playable map. A trailer for the project is available on YouTube, showcasing the recreated zone.

Doneda has a history of Dark Souls 2 modding, previously restoring a cut sewers map from the game. The choice to bring Eleum Loyce to Nightreign is noted as fitting due to its open areas, which can better mimic Elden Ring's Limgrave environment compared to Dark Souls 2's more linear Brume Tower. A notable detail is how the map's layout narrows towards an underground arena, referencing the fight against the Burnt Ivory King in the original Dark Souls 2 DLC.

The mod is available for download on the Nightreign Nexus, and requires Mod Engine 3 for installation, a common utility for most Nightreign mods. Doneda plans to continue creating more modded maps for Nightreign and can be supported via Ko-fi.

Despite the ongoing development of mods like the Seamless Co-op mod and weapon packs featuring designs from other FromSoftware titles, the author expresses a mixed sentiment towards Nightreign, citing frustrating difficulty in recent updates alongside impressive new boss encounters. The game's official support has reportedly ceased as developers focus on new projects, leaving modders to continue expanding its content.
