Elden Ring Movie Reportedly Boasts Nearly $200 Million Budget

A24's upcoming live-action Elden Ring movie is reportedly being produced with a budget of nearly $200 million, making it the studio's most expensive film to date. This figure represents a significant increase from earlier reports that placed the budget at "well over" $100 million.

For comparative context, A24's previous highest-budget films include "Marty Supreme," which reportedly cost around $70 million, and Alex Garland's "Civil War," with a budget of approximately $50 million. The Wall Street Journal, which published the budget figure, focused its report on A24's growing influence in Hollywood and the increasing competition from other studios seeking to emulate its success.

Alex Garland is writing and directing the adaptation, which is being shot for IMAX and is scheduled for release on March 3, 2028. The film's cast includes Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, and Nick Offerman.

FromSoftware's acclaimed open-world action RPG Elden Ring launched in February 2022. The game's lore was developed in collaboration with George R.R. Martin, author of the "Game of Thrones" series. Production on the Elden Ring movie, which is understood to be a prequel to the game, appears to be progressing. Set footage has leaked from locations such as Conwy Castle in North Wales, showing what appear to be human soldiers, possibly set before the in-game event known as the Shattering. The inclusion of characters like the Dung Eater and the potential appearance of lesser enemies suggest a commitment to a faithful adaptation of the source material.
