From Software and Bandai Namco have released a new patch for Elden Ring to address an issue that allowed players to obtain items from the recently released Tarnished Pack DLC without proper purchase. The patch, version 1.17.1, corrects a multiplayer exploit that enabled the duplication of DLC-specific items under certain conditions.

The Tarnished Pack DLC, which launched on August 27th alongside an expanded Nintendo Switch edition of Elden Ring, introduces new starting classes, player equipment, and cosmetic armor for the player's steed, Torrent. This marks FromSoftware's initial foray into selling item packs of this nature, a departure from their previous focus on substantial story-driven expansions like Shadow Of The Erdtree.

The exploit gained traction on platforms like Reddit, where players discovered they could spawn copies of the DLC items in multiplayer sessions, allowing others to acquire them freely. The official Elden Ring account confirmed the fix in a statement, noting that the update "fixes an issue in multiplayer where, under specific conditions, DLC-specific items could be obtained when not normally eligible." The statement also clarified that no additional content was included in the patch.
