Elden Ring's recent update, accompanying the "Tarnished Edition" and available as a $5 upgrade on all platforms, introduces a host of balance changes and new cosmetic items. Among the additions are four new armor sets, with one notably inspired by and dropped by a character from 2014's Dark Souls 2.
Two of the new armor sets are tied to the "Heavy Knight" and "Idus Knight" starting classes. The remaining two can be found in the game world. One of these is wielded by Knight Leontiel, a new invader encountered in Starscourge Radahn's battle arena after his defeat. Players can find her by traveling north from the relevant Site of Grace towards the catacombs.
Leontiel is described as a manageable foe, particularly for players who have completed the base game and its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Defeating her rewards players with her complete armor set, including her Greatsword, legs, chest, helm, and greaves.
The character strongly evokes Lucatiel of Mirrah from Dark Souls 2, sharing a similar toreador-inspired outfit, greatsword, and a mask on her hat. The slight alteration in name in Elden Ring, from Lucatiel to Leontiel, adds a layer of poignancy given Lucatiel's own struggle with memory and identity in Dark Souls 2, where she implored the player to remember her name before she succumbed to hollowing.
A notable feature of Leontiel's armor set is its L2 ability, which allows the use of her cape in a bullfighter-like flourish during attacks. This ability has been showcased in action against Malenia, Blade of Miquella.
Players who have not yet defeated Radahn may find Leontiel's summon sign among others, allowing her to assist in the boss battle before being challenged for her equipment. This mechanic applies only to those who have not yet completed the Radahn encounter.
To encounter Leontiel and obtain her armor, players must have purchased the "Tarnished Edition" DLC or its equivalent. Nintendo Switch players who received the "Tarnished Edition" will have this content automatically. Additionally, players who have progressed to a point in Elden Ring where a significant alteration occurs in Leyndell will be unable to acquire the fourth and final new armor set, the Broken Golden Mask set.
