The Epic Games Store is slated to receive a significant overhaul over the next year, introducing a host of features that have been conspicuously absent since its launch. According to a roadmap presented by Epic, users can expect the implementation of patch notes, personalized storefront homepages, and enhanced game pages, aiming to bring the platform closer to parity with its competitors.
Upcoming Enhancements
Among the initial wave of updates planned within the next 12 months are features such as pre-registration for free-to-play titles, the addition of patch notes, and a private beta for a new version of the launcher. Improvements to storefront navigation are also on the horizon, alongside a feature referred to as "Fortnite Chunked Installation," which is anticipated to allow users to download only specific components of the popular battle royale game.
The revamped storefront experience will include personalized homepages designed to highlight games tailored to individual user interests and playstyles. Similarly, game pages are set to become more detailed, with content dynamically adjusted to present information most relevant to a player's current progress or engagement with a specific title.
Addressing Criticisms
The roadmap also indicates the planned introduction of user-written reviews, a feature frequently cited as a notable omission from the Epic Games Store. Alongside these user-facing improvements, the platform is expected to see enhancements in game discovery and the launch of an updated storefront version. User profiles are also being developed, which will display owned games, recent activity, and achievements.
These additions arrive after a considerable delay, with many of the planned features representing basic functionalities common to digital storefronts for nearly a decade. The timing of these updates follows a period of significant organizational changes at Epic Games, including layoffs impacting over a thousand employees earlier this year.
