IDW Publishing is set to conclude its trilogy of comic book sequels to the 1997 science fiction horror film Event Horizon with a new limited series titled Event Horizon: Pandemonium. Announced at Comic-Con 2026, this final chapter will explore a concept previously untouched in the franchise: a version of Heaven that is even more horrifying than the Hell previously depicted.

The series, written by Christian Ward and featuring art by Hernán González, follows previous installments Event Horizon: Dark Descent (2025) and the currently ongoing Event Horizon: Inferno. Ward stated at SDCC that Pandemonium has always been the planned endgame for his Event Horizon narrative, with groundwork laid in the earlier comics. He described his approach to building the universe's rules and mythology as a response to the original film's core idea of a ship that becomes a sentient, malevolent entity.

Ward elaborated on the inspiration behind the concept of a worse Heaven, drawing from biblical descriptions of angels and God. He explained that these depictions are inherently terrifying, and he treats Heaven as an alien and overwhelming cosmic horror realm that humans are not meant to inhabit. This interpretation aligns with the franchise's established themes of Lovecraftian horror, where humanity's foray into faster-than-light travel tears open dimensions that should remain separate.

While details remain scarce due to the ongoing nature of Event Horizon: Inferno, Ward teased that issue #4 of Inferno will serve as a significant turning point. He also likened the narrative arc of the comics to the transition from the film Alien to its sequel Aliens, suggesting a significant escalation in scope and intensity.

Event Horizon: Pandemonium is also poised to feature a significant visual departure. Ward revealed that the first issue will open in 17th-century London and feature a depiction of Sir Isaac Newton. This suggests a potential exploration of the origins of the gravity drive technology central to the film and its universe, hinting that Newton or predecessors may have been involved in its creation. The artwork for Pandemonium itself is described as a "big swing" that will take the series in unexpected directions.

Event Horizon: Pandemonium #1 is scheduled for release in December 2026, with a final order cutoff date of October 19. Fans can preorder the issue through their local comic shops.
