EverQuest Legends, the ARPG reimagining of the classic MMORPG, has potential future content expansions on the horizon. Developers from Daybreak Games and Game Jawn discussed the possibility of introducing new classes and races to the game during a recent Twitch stream.

"Definitely, I think, long-term we have discussed additional races, additional classes," stated Daybreak executive producer David Youssefi. While he noted that new classes are unlikely before the upcoming Kunark expansion, he expressed confidence that they are "in the longer-term vision of the game." Game Jawn CEO and technical director Eda Spause concurred with this sentiment.

However, developers cautioned that these additions are not guaranteed. Lead content designer Eric Wellman emphasized that the feasibility of new classes and races depends on the amount of work required and its overall value. Spause acknowledged that while she personally believes new classes would be beneficial, the development team faces a significant workload.

This long-term ambition for EverQuest Legends draws parallels to other live service games like Old School RuneScape and the rumored 'Classic+' version of World of Warcraft. By utilizing the foundation of an older game, Legends could expand its offerings with new content, similar to how many MMOs and live service titles have evolved.

While EverQuest Legends already features an original playable race, the kerran, and revamped existing zones, the addition of new playstyles through classes could significantly impact the game's core loop of build concoction and loot farming. The original EverQuest featured a wide array of Dungeons & Dragons-inspired classes, and future additions to Legends might draw inspiration from the more specialized subclasses found in EverQuest 2, such as coercers and defilers, or introduce entirely new concepts.

In related news, early impressions of EverQuest Legends describe it as "an MMO for MUD enjoyers and Morrowind perverts—no longer hard, but still authentically idiosyncratic … the Linux of MMOs."
