The Mass Effect-inspired science fiction role-playing game Exodus has officially received a release date of April 7, 2027. The game is slated for release on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The release date was announced during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, accompanied by a trailer that introduced a key companion character named Salt. Salt is an "awakened" octopus capable of piloting a mech suit, adding a unique combat dynamic beyond traditional companion abilities.
Exodus is being developed by Archetype Entertainment, a studio founded by former BioWare developers, including Drew Karpyshyn, who served as lead writer on the Mass Effect series. This background suggests a focus on familiar elements such as companions, romance options, morality systems, and special abilities, reminiscent of BioWare's acclaimed space opera franchise.
A distinguishing feature of Exodus is its "time dilation" mechanic. This system allows players to experience the accelerated consequences of their decisions. "Exodus" missions, which involve interstellar travel at near light speed, cause time to pass differently for the player compared to those left behind. Minutes for the traveler could equate to hours, weeks, months, or even years for characters remaining on their home worlds, offering a novel approach to narrative progression and decision-making.
