Exodus, the upcoming space opera RPG from Archetype Entertainment, will feature a narrative deeply impacted by player decisions, particularly concerning companion characters and the game's ending. Drew Karpyshyn, narrative director and a former BioWare writer, drew comparisons to the Mass Effect series when discussing the game's narrative structure and choice-driven outcomes. He emphasized that the relationships players forge with their companions will evolve based on the choices made throughout the game.

These decisions will not only influence how companions feel about the player character but may also lead to some companions growing closer while others drift away. Karpyshyn elaborated that these choices can fundamentally change companion storylines, and in some cases, players might not have the same roster of companions by the end of the game as they did at the start. This suggests that companions could be lost or depart based on their alignment with player actions and differing viewpoints.

Beyond personal relationships, Karpyshyn indicated that even optional content and in-game events can have a ripple effect, locking or unlocking future content, altering how scenarios play out, and changing character interactions. This level of consequence suggests that companions might reach a breaking point or face survival challenges influenced by their affinity with the player and the events they experience.

Exodus is scheduled to launch on April 7, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
