After 23 years, a Japanese player known as BTEST4HE has unearthed cheat codes for F-Zero GX, unlocking the game's elusive "Gold Parts." These special components were previously only obtainable through in-person promotional events held in Japan shortly after the game's 2003 release.
Unlocking these "Gold Parts" had become a significant mystery within the F-Zero GX community, often referred to as a "white whale." With the original promotional events long past, the parts were considered lost to time outside of potential homebrew methods. BTEST4HE's discovery, shared on X, provides a way to acquire them through legitimate in-game means.
A Multitude of Codes
Eight distinct cheat codes have been identified, each capable of unlocking specific sets of parts that can then be purchased within the game's shop. These codes are reportedly functional across all versions of F-Zero GX, including the original GameCube release, its Wii port, and the Nintendo Classics version available on the Nintendo Switch.
However, a significant hurdle remains for accessing the most coveted "Gold Parts." Five of the eight discovered codes, including those for the Gold Parts, require the simultaneous input of four controllers. This means players will need to have three friends join them or possess an exceptional number of controllers to input the commands.
The discovery represents a remarkable feat of dedication, effectively solving a 23-year-old puzzle for the F-Zero GX fanbase. The method by which BTEST4HE uncovered these deeply buried codes remains a point of intrigue for the community.
