The upcoming Fable RPG will feature robust character customization, a move that Playground Games director Ralph Fulton emphasized is a common element in the genre. Fulton addressed speculation that the game lacked these options, stating that the team is happy to showcase the flexibility available to players in sculpting their heroes.
During recent showcases, including gameplay from Gamescom 2026, multiple hero appearances have been presented, varying in shape, size, and gender. This approach has led to some online discussion, particularly regarding the appearance of the initial female hero featured in early reveals. However, Fulton clarified that the female character shown in the recent Bowerstone quest gameplay is simply one of many customizable options.
"It's not a revolutionary thing for an RPG to have," Fulton explained regarding character customization. He noted that despite its commonality, there was speculation that Fable would not include such features, prompting the studio to confirm their inclusion. Since then, the studio has been actively cycling through various character options in its promotional materials, including trailers and gameplay videos.
The freedom to define a character's appearance is a core aspect of the Fable experience, allowing players to create a hero that reflects their preferences. Fable is slated for release on February 23, 2027, promising players the ability to make their character look precisely as they desire.
