Fable director Ralph Fulton has revealed that the decision to delay the upcoming RPG was primarily to avoid a direct clash with Grand Theft Auto 6. Speaking at Gamescom 2026, Fulton acknowledged that while Playground Games does not typically shy away from competing with other major releases, Rockstar's forthcoming open-world title is a notable exception.
The studio previously occupied an October release window, but this was shifted to avoid a crowded period. Fulton expressed his personal disappointment in not releasing the game this year but affirmed that the strategic delay was the correct decision. "The rationale for it is absolutely sound," he stated. "I'm glad that we're avoiding that chaotic window."
While the broader gaming landscape features numerous high-profile releases slated for the remainder of the year, including titles like Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Blood of Dawnwalker, two Star Wars games, Marvel's Wolverine, Control Resonant, Gears of War: E-Day, and Phantom Blade Zero, Fulton admitted that one game stands out.
"We don't run scared of other big games. We're a big game ourselves. We hold ourselves to high standards. I'm happy to go toe-to-toe with a bunch of other games," Fulton explained. "There's just one that I'm happy to avoid entirely."
