Fallout 4 Mod Adds New Town 'Detour' with Voiced NPCs and Quests

A new town named Detour, featuring a cast of voiced non-player characters and new quests, has been added to Fallout 4 through a fan-made mod. Developed by a group of experienced Fallout 4 modders as part of the Commonwealth Story Expansion Project, Detour is designed to serve as a growing quest hub within the game's post-apocalyptic Boston setting.

The settlement is situated on a ruined freeway, relatively close to the starting area of Sanctuary and near the Bedford Station map marker, making it accessible early in a player's playthrough. Detour draws inspiration from established Fallout locations like Arefu from Fallout 3 and Highway Town from Fallout 76's Burning Springs update.

Within Detour, players will find over a dozen characters with more than 600 lines of dialogue. These inhabitants include a ghoul sheriff with potential bounty hunting work and a thief named Randy who may offer tasks if freed from confinement. The mod also provides a house for players to purchase, allowing for a more permanent in-game residence. The town's amenities include shops and services, contributing to its function as a place for trading and engaging in new storylines.

The creators have indicated that Detour is intended to be a platform for future content additions. The modders behind it have a history of developing substantial quest mods for Fallout 4, with previous projects exploring themes such as deadly cults, underground conflicts, detective investigations, and Brotherhood of Steel storylines.

To install and experience the Detour mod, players will need to own Fallout 4's Nuka World DLC. An optional patch is also available that enables compatibility with the Reputation mod, introducing faction relationship dynamics similar to those found in Fallout: New Vegas.
