A decade after its initial release, Bethesda is breathing new life into Fallout 4 by endorsing and presenting a trio of new experiences developed by modders. These aren't typical fan projects; they are presented in partnership with Bethesda, positioning them as significant updates akin to official DLC.
One of the standout additions is "Command Override," a mini-campaign centered on the robotics company RobCo. This expansion emphasizes technology, allowing players to hack and control various mechs. As players delve into RobCo's headquarters, they will encounter experimental equipment such as a Ghost Pilot Suit that grants wall-seeing capabilities, alongside new weaponry like a Beam Gun capable of overheating for increased damage, though at the cost of radiation exposure. Players can directly pilot robots, utilizing their integrated weaponry, with the campaign description noting access to "everything from the Sentry Bot's missile pod to the Assaultron's eye laser during combat."
Another new experience, "Fallout 4: FEVer Dreams," brings back the original voice actors for Fallout 4's protagonists, Courtenay Taylor and Brian T. Delaney. The adventure begins with the player character trapped and seemingly poisoned by a strain of the Forced Evolutionary Virus. While combat is present, FEVer Dreams introduces puzzle-solving elements within an escape room-style dungeon. This lore-heavy expansion aims to shed light on Fallout's infamous bioweapon, featuring familiar characters with new gear and weapons. The official trailer suggests a visually disorienting journey where players must make difficult choices, such as a ghoul presenting a scenario where only one individual can receive a cure for FEV.
The third announcement is for "Fallout 4: Fathomless," scheduled for release in 2027. This entry is described as a cosmic horror adventure set entirely underwater, where players will explore a mysterious deep-sea crater and encounter new Eldritch horrors amidst shipwrecks. Like FEVer Dreams, Fathomless will feature voice acting.
These new additions are available to PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC users through Bethesda's Creation platform, offering players compelling distractions while they await further Fallout titles and Bethesda's next major projects like The Elder Scrolls 6.
