Bethesda has released a significant update for Fallout 4, introducing substantial improvements to its Creation Kit and addressing a variety of game-breaking bugs and crashes. The patch, available now, aims to bolster the game's long-standing modding community while refining the player experience.
One of the most notable changes is the increase in the BA2 archive limit, raised from 256 to 1024. This enhancement is designed to better accommodate the growing size and complexity of player-created mods, offering greater flexibility for modders. Furthermore, the update expands Creation upload capabilities, allowing files up to 2GB in size to be submitted for Xbox platforms. PlayStation users also benefit from new Creation Kit features, including support for PlayStation archives and new file types like .nif, .dds, .bink, .cdx, .csg, .wav, and .fuz.
Crash fixes are also a key component of this update. Notably, Bethesda has resolved a crash that occurred when players opened the virtual keyboard on a Steam Deck, a crucial fix for those utilizing Valve's handheld device. Other resolved crashes include a prevalent issue stemming from a streaming audio error and a crash encountered on the Microsoft Store when accessing Creations menus after resuming internet connectivity.
Beyond these headline features, the patch includes numerous bug fixes. Exiting search functions within Creations now correctly returns players to the Creation's details page, and Creations category lists are reported to be more consistently ordered. Error messages from the Bethesda.Net service have also been improved, now including error codes that can assist customer service in troubleshooting. For the Creation Kit specifically, archiving plugins that use pre-existing assets in new forms will no longer result in duplication, and material or heightmap terrain edits will now properly generate grass. Additionally, running LipGen via command line or launch argument now correctly generates .lip files.
Bethesda also advised Fallout 4 players to log into their game prior to the update to save their load order, which would allow for a bulk redownload of their Creations list post-patch. The studio has indicated that a Skyrim update is also in development, with further details expected soon.
