Fallout: New California, a comprehensive mod for Fallout: New Vegas, has officially launched on GOG. This release makes the extensive fan-made project more accessible to players who own Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition, eliminating the need for manual file management and the installation of multiple recommended mods.
Previously recognized for its quality, the mod was called "the best Fallout game you'll play this year" by PC Gamer back in 2018. At that time, it had already been in development for approximately seven years, originally under the title Project Brazil. The GOG version streamlines the installation and launch process.
The narrative of Fallout: New California places players in the role of a "kid from Vault 18" in the year 2260, prior to the events of Fallout 2. The developers describe the premise as a "fateful decision" made on the last Vault Ball season night that will shape the player's life and influence the future of the New California Republic.
Players will encounter various factions, including the New California Republic under President Wendell Peterson, the New Reno Mob's Bishop Family, remnant Shi Clans, the Enclave Leonidas Squadron, a Super Mutant Army, and a Raider Alliance gathered in the Athens-Tec Uranium Mine. The mod's setting places it within the timeline of the original Interplay Fallout games. Developers have previously described the mod as "a remarkable achievement, and one of the most confident and professional mods I’ve ever played."
