A fan-made port of the defunct mobile game Kingdom Hearts Union X Dark Road is nearing completion, offering players a chance to experience a crucial part of the series' narrative ahead of Kingdom Hearts 4. The original game was delisted from digital storefronts in 2024, making it inaccessible to new players and those wishing to revisit its story.
Kingdom Hearts modder Arena7664 announced on X that they have successfully ported Union X Dark Road to both mobile and PC via a browser. While the full Union X story component will only be accessible through cutscenes in this port, the Dark Road portion, which was previously a standalone release within Union X, will be fully playable offline. This is due to the nature of the original mobile app, which allowed for offline access to Dark Road.
The fan port aims to preserve the game by uploading it to the Internet Archive, offering both Japanese and English versions. Arena7664 plans to implement several quality-of-life improvements, including an option to instantly unlock all cutscenes, a feature to grant unlimited in-game currency for unrestricted unlocking and leveling, and the ability to adjust the game's speed. A specific release date has not yet been announced, but the modder indicated it would be available soon.
The story of Kingdom Hearts Union X Dark Road is chronologically the earliest in the series, detailing events during the Keyblade War and the origins of the antagonist Xehanort. Characters from this mobile title were featured prominently in a June 2026 Nintendo Direct gameplay trailer for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 4, suggesting its narrative will play a significant role in the next mainline installment. Fans will likely want to familiarize themselves with these characters and their story before the release of Kingdom Hearts 4.
