FX's adaptation of Ubisoft's Far Cry video game series has expanded its cast with the addition of Brendan Gleeson, Hamish Linklater, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Sam Spruell, and Jamie Demetriou. These actors join previously announced cast members Steve Buscemi, Rob McElhenney, and Lizzy Caplan. McElhenney is also serving as a co-creator on the series alongside Noah Hawley, known for his work on FX's Legion, Fargo, and Alien: Earth.
The series is based on Ubisoft's long-running franchise, which first launched in 2004. While specific plot details remain undisclosed, the creative team intends for the show to operate as an anthology. This format suggests that each season will feature a distinct story and cast.
This is not the first time Far Cry has been adapted for the screen; a direct-to-video film was released in 2008. More recently, Netflix produced Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, an animated series inspired by the Far Cry 3 DLC Blood Dragon, which debuted in 2023. Prior to that, Ubisoft's attempt to adapt Assassin's Creed into a 2016 film starring Michael Fassbender did not achieve significant critical or commercial success. The forthcoming Far Cry series aims to achieve a more favorable reception.
