A member of the fighting game community, Kofi ‘Koustics’ Miller, is being credited with safely apprehending an individual who drew a knife at a New York City gaming lounge on the evening of June 20. The incident occurred at OS NYC, a venue that also hosts events, while Miller was in the midst of a Twitch stream.
According to Miller's account, the situation began when an Apex Legends player became disruptive. After peaceful attempts to de-escalate failed and the player was asked to leave, he reportedly brandished a knife. Miller intervened when the individual attempted to re-enter the lounge with the weapon.
Miller described using his sumo wrestling skills to bodyslam and restrain the man until law enforcement arrived. He noted that the player landed on his own weapon during the altercation, resulting in some bleeding. In a post shared online, Miller showed the aftermath and humorously remarked that the incident disrupted his rank-up game, costing him "14 LP."
Video footage shared on social media depicted police vehicles outside the establishment. Miller also posted images of the scene following the police arrival.
Miller, who is also a sumo wrestler and has appeared on Saturday Night Live, stated that his sumo training helped him maintain composure during the stressful event. He emphasized that everyone involved left without serious injury and that the situation was ultimately resolved as a "funnier story than it could have been."
He advised that if a game is causing significant distress, players should consider stepping away. "If the games are going that badly, then maybe try something less stressful," Miller suggested.
