Square Enix has removed the time limit on Final Fantasy 11's free trial, a change long anticipated by players. The developer announced this update on the PlayOnline website, noting that free trial participants can now enjoy the game indefinitely without a time constraint. This move significantly enhances the accessibility of the two-decade-old MMORPG.
Beyond the removal of the 14-day play restriction, the free trial now allows players to level their characters up to 75, a substantial increase from the previous cap of 50. Players who had previously created free trial accounts and exhausted their allotted playtime will also regain access to the game under these new terms.
Remaining Free Trial Restrictions
Despite the expanded access, several restrictions remain in place for free trial players. These limitations are designed to encourage players to transition to a full subscription for the complete experience. Key restrictions include:
- A limit of three characters per account.
- Access to jobs introduced in expansion packs is restricted.
- Free trial players are limited to areas from the original Final Fantasy 11 release.
- Auction house functionality is unavailable, meaning players cannot list items, place bids, or view auctions.
- A maximum gil limit of 100,000 is imposed.
- Trading with other players and using the bazaar feature for buying or selling is not permitted.
- Free trial players cannot initiate party invitations, though they can join parties when invited by others.
- The Mog House Delivery Box feature is inaccessible.
- Chat channels such as /tell, /shout, and /yell are disabled, though in-party chat and replies to tells are functional.
- The World Transfer Service cannot be used.
- Characters on the free trial cannot become mentors or participate in Unity Concord.
While the absence of expansion content might be a drawback for some, the base game offers a vast amount of content for new and returning players to explore. Furthermore, Final Fantasy 11 is known for its surprising solo-play friendliness, mitigating some of the limitations imposed on party formation. Players can also circumvent certain restrictions by grouping with individuals who maintain paid accounts.
