Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the concluding chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, has officially received a release date of April 8, 2027. Director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed the date during Sony's State of Play livestream, revealing that the game will launch simultaneously worldwide across all platforms, including PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. This marks the first time a game in the series will have a simultaneous global release.

The game continues the narrative begun with Final Fantasy 7 Remake, retelling the story of the original Final Fantasy 7 in three parts. The upcoming installment will see Cloud and his companions confronting Sephiroth in their race to prevent a meteor from impacting the planet. Adding to the peril, ancient planetary defense systems known as Weapons have awakened, posing a potential threat to humanity as they prioritize Earth's protection.

New gameplay footage showcased during the State of Play revealed the Highwind airship, which will allow players to traverse various regions of the game world. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is expected to be the largest entry in the trilogy, encompassing all previously visited locations along with new original areas, mirroring the scope of the original game's "final disc."

In addition to the release date announcement, Square Enix has also launched a playable demo for its upcoming HD-2D RPG, Final Fantasy Resonance. The demo, available for download now and approximately 5GB in size, features the entirety of the game's first chapter, offering an estimated three to five hours of gameplay. Players will be able to import their save data from the demo into the full game upon its launch next month. While announced during a PS5 stream, the demo is also accessible on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox.

The demo for Final Fantasy Resonance follows Square Enix's recent trend of offering early access to its titles, allowing players to experience a substantial portion of the game before its full release.
