Final Fantasy 7: Revelation, slated for a 2027 release, may offer more than just its main story, according to a recent store listing. An Epic Games Store entry, as reported by IGN, details downloadable content for the game, including a "Story Expansion Pass." The exact nature of this content remains unclear, but its inclusion suggests that Cloud and his companions could embark on further adventures beyond the game's primary narrative. The Final Fantasy 7 universe has a history of post-release story expansions, with the animated film Advent Children and the game Dirge of Cerberus taking place after the original title. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi has also expressed openness to exploring side stories for various characters, stating, "We have had a lot of voices from fans wanting to explore the stories, or side stories, of other characters and other parts of the story as well. That is something that is interesting." Square Enix previously expanded the Final Fantasy Remake series with Intergrade, an add-on for the first game that focused on Yuffie. However, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth did not receive a similar expansion, with the developer prioritizing the development of Revelation. A significant shift for Final Fantasy 7: Revelation is its planned multiplatform launch. Unlike its predecessors, the game is not intended to be a PlayStation exclusive and will be available simultaneously on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo's Switch 2 console on the same day as its PlayStation 5 release.
