Director Naoki Hamaguchi has stated that the Platinum trophy for the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will be significantly easier to obtain than that of its predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. He acknowledged that Rebirth's Platinum was intentionally designed to be difficult, aiming to encourage players to engage with and perfect all of the game's content. However, the low completion rate, around 2.6%, has led to a reevaluation.
"I think that's one thing that we've learned from Rebirth: to make the battles themselves enjoyable rather than just challenging," Hamaguchi told Anime News Network. He admitted to having "regrets" upon seeing the player reception to Rebirth's challenging trophy requirements. The development team underestimated the desire for Platinum trophies among players, which contributed to the perceived difficulty.
For Revelation, the focus is shifting. Hamaguchi anticipates that approximately twenty percent, or even more, of players will be able to achieve the Platinum trophy. This suggests a deliberate design choice to balance challenge with accessibility for a broader audience.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027, and will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles.
