Square Enix has unveiled a new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the anticipated final installment in the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy, offering a closer look at its reimagined superboss battles and new gameplay features. The trailer was showcased during Gamescom Opening Night Live, where game director Naoki Hamaguchi detailed the upcoming title.

Revelation's climax will feature intense encounters with the game's optional, highly challenging "Weapons." These formidable foes, described as "towering monstrosities termed weapons," include iconic bosses like Emerald, Ruby, and Ultima Weapon. The trailer provided glimpses of Cloud and his party confronting these formidable adversaries. The development team is adapting these fights, known for their unique mechanics and strict constraints in the original game—such as Emerald Weapon's 20-minute time limit without specific materia—for Revelation's real-time combat system.

Officially titled Revelation during Summer Game Fest, the third entry in the trilogy will introduce new ways to explore its world. Players will be able to pilot the Highwind airship, allowing for seamless transitions from air travel to ground exploration via parachute, reminiscent of mechanics seen in games like Fortnite. The game world will blend familiar locations from Remake and Rebirth with new areas, including Wutai. Hamaguchi has assured fans that despite the expanded environments, Revelation will avoid the content bloat experienced in its predecessor.

Vincent Valentine's voice actor, Matt Mercer, has stated that the series' battle system has been perfected in Revelation. Both Vincent and Cid will become playable party members in this installment, with Hamaguchi noting the particular challenge in making Cid a controllable character due to his original personality. Combat will also feature the trilogy's most difficult encounters against the Weapons.

The Gold Saucer will return, offering a hub for more Queen's Blood mini-game activity.

Regarding the conclusion of the remake trilogy, Hamaguchi confirmed that the development team has maintained a consistent vision from the outset and has not altered plans based on player feedback. As the remake series has already introduced alterations to the original game's events, the exact narrative twists and whether Cloud and his companions can defy fate remain points of speculation for players.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled for release in Spring 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
