Square Enix is introducing an auto-leveling system in the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the concluding chapter of the Remake trilogy. This optional feature aims to allow players to bypass traditional RPG grinding and focus on the main narrative, a direct response to fan feedback regarding the pacing and perceived bloat of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
In an interview with IGN Japan, director Naoki Hamaguchi explained that the auto-leveling system will prompt players to choose whether to automatically adjust their party's level to the recommended requirement for story missions. This system is designed to bring Revelation's experience closer to the more linear structure of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, enabling players to experience the conclusion of the trilogy without extensive side-questing or leveling.
While the auto-leveling is optional for those who wish to engage with the game's content at their own pace, its inclusion addresses concerns that Rebirth's expansive open world could detract from the main story's momentum. Revelation is expected to be a substantial entry, potentially larger than Rebirth, featuring both returning and new environments.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027, across all platforms. The game will receive a physical release, but with a notable change: it will ship on a single disc containing partial data, necessitating a download for full playability. This is due to the game's estimated total size of around 200 GB, exceeding the capacity of current single-disc formats. While the requirement for a download may be disappointing for collectors of physical media, the inclusion of any disc is a departure from some recent AAA releases that have opted for fully digital distribution.
