Square Enix has announced the release of "Denouement," a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle celebrating the 25th anniversary of the PlayStation role-playing game Final Fantasy 9. The puzzle depicts the game's heroes gathered before the Iifa Tree, a pivotal location in the game's narrative. It is priced at $39.99 in the US and £32.99 in the UK.
The "Denouement" puzzle is part of a broader celebration for Final Fantasy 9's 25th anniversary, which began with an anniversary website in March 2025. This commemorative effort has extended beyond the game's July birthday, leading to a variety of merchandise releases, including a "Timeless Tale" vinyl record, a picture book focusing on the character Vivi, music boxes, plush toys, and an action figure of Zidane.
Final Fantasy 9 tells the story of Zidane, a thief who becomes embroiled in a conflict that threatens the planet Gaia. The plot involves a scheme to replace the planet's souls, with the Iifa Tree playing a crucial role in regulating the flow of souls to their rebirth cycle. The game culminates in a confrontation at the Iifa Tree against the villainous forces seeking to control or extinguish life.
This new puzzle, "Denouement," which translates to the resolution of a story, focuses on the game's conclusion. Two other puzzles in the series, "Integrity" and "Reclusion," are also available. "Reclusion" features the antagonist Kuja beside his Silver Dragon, while "Integrity" shows Vivi looking up at Zidane with a large moon in the background.
UK pre-orders for the "Denouement" puzzle are open, with an expected release in November 2026, though Square Enix cautions that release dates and piece counts may be subject to change. The US store indicates that the "Denouement" puzzle is currently sold out, pending further updates. Other merchandise, including the "Reclusion" and "Integrity" puzzles, playmats, and music boxes, are also available for purchase.
