Square Enix revealed Final Fantasy Resonance during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation, showcasing an HD-2D art style reminiscent of the Octopath Traveler series. The game is slated for release on October 22.

While appearing as a new narrative to some, Resonance is an adaptation of the story and world from the initial arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, a mobile game that concluded its service last year. The original mobile title featured a traditional Final Fantasy adventure with elements like chocobos and airships, and included cameos from characters such as Cloud and Tidus.

Square Enix has stated that Resonance is not a direct port or remaster of the mobile game. The company described it as being "refined and extensively rebuilt as a full-fledged console-quality RPG experience."

Final Fantasy Resonance will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, in addition to its Nintendo Switch release. This announcement follows other recent Square Enix news, including the reveal of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and new footage for Kingdom Hearts IV.
