Final Fantasy Resonance, the first entry in the franchise to adopt the HD-2D visual style, is set to bring two of the most celebrated features from Final Fantasy Brave Exvius to PC and console. These include the ability to summon guest characters from across the Final Fantasy universe and unleash their powerful, CG-animated ultimate attacks. This adaptation reimagines the mobile game as a standalone adventure, offering a new way for players to experience its world and mechanics.
A recent trailer showcased the "Visions" system, which allows players to call upon heroes from different realities and timelines. Notably, Cloud Strife, the protagonist of Final Fantasy VII, can be summoned as an ally by finding and "resonating" with his Vision. Once obtained, players can execute Cloud's iconic Omnislash attack, complete with a detailed animation sequence produced by Square Enix's CG animation team.
This approach cleverly integrates elements of gacha mechanics from Brave Exvius without requiring players to spend real money. In the original mobile title, acquiring characters like Cloud often involved expending in-game tickets or purchasing them with cash due to their rarity. These high-tier characters were highly sought after for endgame content due to their superior stats and damage potential when fully developed.
The trailer indicates that Cloud's Vision can be found within the Sanctum of Light. If Resonance includes similar locations, it suggests that more familiar dungeons may house additional recruitable Visions. Brave Exvius featured a robust roster of unlockable characters, allowing players to assemble parties with legendary figures such as Squall Leonhart and Tidus. The visual appeal of these beloved characters rendered in HD-2D could potentially influence Square Enix to revive other defunct mobile franchises in a similar style, or perhaps even inspire a remake of Final Fantasy VI.
