Square Enix is offering an early access option for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but it comes with a significant price tag. The Premium Edition of the game, costing $100, includes a Story Expansion Pass for two upcoming DLCs and grants players access to the open-world RPG 24 hours before its scheduled release date of April 8, 2026.
For those seeking additional digital content, a Premium Plus Edition is available for $110. This version bundles the digital art book, soundtrack, and several in-game items in addition to the early access and expansion pass. Pre-order bonuses for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth include the Summoning Materia: Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle, available if pre-ordered by April 8, 2027. The digital pre-order bonus may be offered for purchase at a later date.
The Premium Edition includes the base game, the Story Expansion Pass which features an accessory that restores HP when enemies are defeated and a survival item set, along with access to Story DLC 1: Sephiroth and Story DLC 2: Vincent & the Turks, plus the 24-hour early access. The Premium Plus Edition contains all of the above, plus the digital art book, digital mini soundtrack, Summoning Materia: Polydroid Alexander, the Nymphwing Bracelet armor which slightly restores MP after battle, and the Risk Taker’s Choker accessory that restores 25% of HP when a Limit Break is used.
Details regarding the content of the "Sephiroth" and "Vincent & the Turks" DLCs remain scarce, though Square Enix has indicated that Story DLC 1 is slated for a Winter 2027 release, with Story DLC 2 targeting a Spring 2028 release. These DLCs will also be available for individual purchase, though their prices have not yet been disclosed.
The practice of charging for early access is becoming a more common revenue strategy for publishers, often capitalizing on player desire to experience new content as soon as possible. While a 24-hour head start might seem minor, the additional cost of $30 over the standard game price, coupled with pre-ordering unrevealed DLC content, positions this as a premium offering for the most dedicated fans.
