Two years after its release, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth continues to surprise players with an enduring bug that features a glitched Chocobo. This peculiar issue causes a Chocobo to persistently follow players across the game world, an occurrence that has resurfaced and gained renewed attention through viral social media posts.
Posts shared by Twitter user @bwautif have highlighted instances of the errant Chocobo appearing in unexpected and humorous locations, prompting discussions about the bug's longevity. It appears this Chocobo has been a consistent, albeit unintended, companion since the game's launch.
Players have previously documented the bug's disruptive nature. One account from 2024 detailed how the Chocobo's presence interfered with gameplay, even appearing within cutscenes and causing character collision. The user suggested the bug may originate after completing the Gabe's Chocobo Ranch side quest, noting that the Chocobo would spawn at a distance from the ranch and follow the player, but would despawn if the player used the Chocobo fast service or returned to the grasslands.
Efforts by players to report the issue to Square Enix support were apparently met with no resolution, as the bug continues to manifest. The persistence of this glitch has led to speculation that Square Enix may not prioritize a fix, particularly with the next installment in the Remake trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, on the horizon.
