Square Enix has officially announced that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the concluding chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, will launch on April 8, 2027. The announcement was made by director Naoki Hamaguchi during a PlayStation State of Play presentation, which also featured a new trailer and over ten minutes of gameplay footage.

Combat in Rebirth will introduce the FITS system, which links character abilities to specific outfits, reminiscent of mechanics seen in Final Fantasy X-2 and Lightning Returns. Players will also have the Highwind airship as their customizable base of operations. The game will allow players to switch between party members on the fly in the open world, influencing quest progression and character interactions. Certain characters will also feature unique quest lines, including a new saga focused on Red XIII and the card game Queen's Blood.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was initially revealed at Summer Game Fest. The game will introduce the complete main party, including Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind, and feature both new and returning locations. Hamaguchi has stated that Rebirth will aim to avoid the content bloat experienced in its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. A trailer from Gamescom Opening Night Live showcased "Weapons," which are described as superbosses offering significant challenges.

Regarding the narrative conclusion, Hamaguchi has indicated that the development team's plans remain unchanged by player feedback, maintaining a clear vision for the trilogy's ending. The previous entries have explored altered events from the original 1997 game, leaving the ultimate fate of Cloud and the party open to interpretation.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027, and will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
