Final Fantasy VII Revelation will offer players the option to automatically boost their characters' levels at key story junctures, a new feature designed to cater to those who wish to prioritize the narrative over extensive grinding. This system aims to address player feedback from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, where those focusing solely on the main story often found themselves under-leveled for crucial boss encounters.
Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, detailed this upcoming quality-of-life feature in a recent interview with IGN Japan. According to translations of the interview, the system will prompt players at various points in the game, asking if they wish to raise their party's level to the recommended benchmark for the current story segment. This feature is intended to facilitate a smoother progression for players eager to reach the game's conclusion without being held back by optional content or the need for repeated combat.
Square Enix has been exploring various avenues to make its titles more accessible. The Pixel Remaster series of Final Fantasy games included settings to adjust XP and Gil gains, and later ports of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth to Switch 2 and Xbox introduced new difficulty options, including one where all attacks dealt 9,999 damage. While Revelation may not feature such an extreme damage mode at launch, the auto-level boost is expected to be a significant boon for players aiming for a more direct story playthrough. This could also prove useful given reports that Revelation may require multiple playthroughs to experience all its content, with a single completionist run potentially exceeding 100 hours.
