Fans received a fresh look at Final Fantasy VII Rebirth during Gamescom's Opening Night Live, with a new trailer revealing elements such as the game's Weapons, submarine combat sequences, and character outfits. The trailer opened with Rufus Shinra delivering a public service announcement via the Shinra News Network regarding the impending threat of Meteor and the existence of the Weapons, attempting to reassure the public about humanity's ability to overcome these challenges.

The footage highlighted one of the planet-saving Weapons actively engaging Shinra soldiers. It also provided specific shots of the Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon, and Ultima Weapon. Gameplay presented Tifa in a Black Mage class outfit, alongside a pre-rendered cutscene depicting the airship Highwind confronting a Weapon. Within the submarine, the Huge Materia was visible, and an underwater combat segment showcased the party navigating the ocean depths while the submarine evaded attacks.

Further scenes depicted the team parachuting from the Highwind and riding chocobos across the world map. Yuffie was also shown exploring an area that appears to be Wutai, contributing to an exciting trailer that has heightened anticipation among fans.

Dialogue within the trailer frequently referenced the Weapons. Vincent Valentine, in a voiceover, stated, "The Planet sees us as another threat to her well-being, and rightfully so." Cid offered his perspective, commenting, "You call 'em planetary warriors. But I call 'em weapons of mass destruction!"

It is yet to be determined if these featured Weapons will function as standard bosses or as optional superbosses, in line with the original game. A specific release date was not announced, though the game maintains its release window of Spring 2027. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is slated for simultaneous release on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox PC.

This trailer follows previous glimpses of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, including those shown at Summer Game Fest, which reintroduced the Highwind airship. This airship will enable Cloud and his companions to traverse the globe, with the option to descend via parachute for exploration.

The FITS system, allowing each character to alter their playstyle by adopting different Final Fantasy jobs, was also introduced. Players will have the opportunity to control Vincent Valentine, utilizing his gunslinging abilities, and can even transform into the Galian Beast.

While further details about the game remain limited, director Naoki Hamaguchi has expressed intentions to incorporate elements from various Final Fantasy VII spin-off properties into the game's conclusion. The trailer featured an image of the game's world.
