Final Fantasy VII Revelation will feature a new iteration of the recurring summon Shiva, dubbed 'Polydroid Shiva,' voiced by Critical Role's Marisha Ray. The announcement was made during the game's panel at New York Comic Con.
A behind-the-scenes clip shown at the panel featured Polydroid Shiva seemingly introducing a snowboarding minigame and addressing Vincent Valentine, voiced by Ray's real-life husband and Critical Role co-star, Matt Mercer.
"Have you any of the faintest idea of the consternation you’ve caused?" Polydroid Shiva says in the clip. "Polydroid problems aren’t my purview," Vincent replies. She then challenges him: "Drop on a board, caped one, and give my slopes a spin. Let us see how you carve!"
Ray was present at the panel but remained in the audience. When asked about acting alongside Ray, Mercer expressed enthusiasm, noting that Shiva is her favorite summon in the series. He also shared that the development team was unaware of their marital connection when casting Ray, leading to a moment of shared relief that her casting was based on merit.
The panel also provided insight into the dedication of the voice cast. Cody Christian, the voice of Cloud Strife, estimated spending around 800 hours in the recording booth collectively to perfect his lines, highlighting the meticulous process of capturing every inflection and breath.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is slated for release on April 8, 2027. Director Naoki Hamaguchi has previously stated that the game is expected to exceed 100 hours for completionists to beat.
