Final Fantasy VII: Revelation Platinum Trophy Will Be More Accessible Than Rebirth's

Final Fantasy VII: Revelation is set to release in February 2027, and game director Naoki Hamaguchi has indicated that obtaining its Platinum trophy will be a less daunting task compared to its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

In an interview with Anime News Network, Hamaguchi addressed the low Platinum trophy achievement rate for Rebirth, which he attributed to the game's extensive content and the stringent requirements, particularly the post-game VR boss gauntlets that demanded perfect execution. "For Rebirth's platinum trophy — well, for Rebirth in general — there's so much to do. There's so much content. We wanted to make people go through all this content and perfect it. It's kind of by design that that would make it difficult," Hamaguchi explained. He admitted that the development team underestimated the demand for the Platinum trophy and that battle director Teruki Endo expressed regret over the difficulty.

Hamaguchi stated that for Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, the approach to trophy design will differ. "In comparison, for Revelation, the platinum trophy will be easier to get," he said. "In terms of how difficult it will be, we're expecting twenty percent of players or maybe even more than that to be able to obtain it." The director emphasized a shift in design philosophy, moving from purely challenging battles to ensuring that the battles themselves are enjoyable. "I think that's one thing that we've learned from Rebirth: to make the battles themselves enjoyable rather than just challenging."

While the specific challenge level of Revelation's optional superbosses remains to be seen, the intention is for them to be less of a grind. Final Fantasy VII: Revelation is scheduled for release on February 8, 2027, for Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Players will need to download the game even if purchasing a physical disc. The game is expected to offer over 100 hours of gameplay for completionists.
