Final Fantasy XIV is set to introduce a distinctive new job, the Bastion, as part of its upcoming "Evercold" expansion. This main tank class distinguishes itself with a unique combat style that integrates blocking, shooting, and stabbing using a pair of novel weapons known as skyltborg.
These dual weapons, described as resembling supersized gunshields, appear to be entirely new to the Final Fantasy universe. Early glimpses from teaser trailers showcase extravagant combat animations, which are a hallmark of Final Fantasy XIV's job reveals. These animations feature the Bastion character, exemplified by a Roegeadyn in promotional material, leaping into the air to unleash laser blasts and perform uppercuts. The visual flair is complemented by what is described as "badass electronic rock" music, a common accompaniment to the game's job reveals.
Game director Yoshi-P has already embraced the new job's aesthetic, appearing in full Bastion cosplay at the Berlin Fan Festival, an event where players shared images of his costume on social media platform X. The initial reveal suggests that the Bastion will be playable exclusively within the "evolved mode," a refined battle system slated for inclusion with the "Evercold" expansion.
Further details regarding the "Evercold" expansion are expected later this year at the Tokyo Fan Festival. The full expansion is scheduled for launch in January 2027.
